Making a Difference – Where Your Thoughts Lodge

Jer 4:14- “O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved.  How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee?

Someone once said, “Let the mind of your master be the master of your mind.”  One of the most critical battlegrounds in a Christians life is that of your thoughts.  So important is our thought life that it effects our very being!  Pro 23:7- “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.”  Rom 8:5-6- “For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.  For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”  Those things in which you allow your thoughts to dwell on,those are the things that your heart desires.  It’s one thing to have a thought enter your mind and then dismiss it. It’s a whole nother thing to allow those thoughts to lodge within thee.

A majority of vain thoughts that enter our mind were originally on purpose and thought to be temporary. However, once the gates are opened, they are difficult to shut.  These vain thoughts can be anything from selfish entertainment to sinful commitment.  Anything that takes our focus away from God and serving Him is vanity.  Solomon describes vanity all through out the book of Ecclesiasties. Finally at the end, he gives his conclusion Ecc 12:13- “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:Fear God, and keep his commandments:for this is the whole duty of man.”  God should be the center of our lives.  All thoughts our mind dwells on ought be toward pleasing the Lord. That’s not saying don’t think about other things, but it is saying where your mind dwells, that is where your hearts is.  Pro 4:23- “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

You can make a difference today by allowing God to lodge in your thought life!  Entertainment has its place, but it shouldn’t dominate your thoughts, that is where God’s word belongs.  Psa 1:1-2- “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.  But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
